Like - Beauty Sleep
When people talk about getting their beauty sleep they say it in an offhanded silly kind of way. Like, “Ok, I’m off to get my beauty sleep lol” after they’ve been watching TV until their eyes are red, back is sore, and they’re struggling to find the strength to take their dishes over to the sink instead of leaving them on the table to be collected tomorrow morning. But this belies the important reality that all sleep is beauty sleep. Have you ever seen a college student the morning after pulling an all nighter? Or a raver at the afters who is artificially awake? Or anyone who works the night shift when they get off? Do they look their best? Not even close. With frazzled hair and bags under their eyes, they embody being on low battery mode. That’s because what they need is to get some rest—aka their beauty sleep. This must have been obvious to who ever coined the phrase but it’s endlessly amazing how meaning gets lost in our cultural game of telephone.
