One of the biggest changes in my life over the last year or so has been checking in on pop culture more. I owe this development to my girlfriend and Hunter Harris. I can’t say that I’ve become a full-on pop culture lover. I don’t read PopCrave or other related accounts (except when they get brought up in people’s essays). But, I do enjoy being up to date on what’s going on. It’s pretty fun. For instance, just last week the popstar Dua Lipa released a new single called “Illusion.” It’s a pretty fun Nu-Disco-y track that people will surely dance to. It’s also the third song she has with a weird connection to magic. Her first and most obvious one is “Houdini.” She also has “Levitating,” which by the music video is more of a space-themed, UFO kind of song but let’s be real—magicians are into levitating, too. So, what’s up with that? Does she have a thing for magic shows? A quick Google search doesn’t turn up much. Only time will tell if this is all a coincidence or an elaborate act. Based on the music I’ve heard so far I could imagine future songs like, “Sleight of Hand,” “Disappearing Act,” “Cut In Half,” “Is this your number?” and maybe she could even do a remix of Heart’s “Magic Man.” Subtly keeping this bit up would be her greatest trick of all.

I think I was too distracted by the divers to notice when she kicked in that video.
