Like - Froufrou Dishes
This year for my birthday I did something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time: make a trifle. I don’t know where exactly I got the idea to make a trifle from (though likely it was from The Great British Bake Off) but it’s been one of those ideas that has rattled around in my head for awhile. It’s been very, “Oh what a wonderful idea, but do I need to buy a trifle dish right now?” That’s the thing about trifle, it’s gotta be served in a trifle dish, which is about as froufrou as it gets. Not many dishes are served in eponymous dishes—for instance, crème brulée is served in a ramekin. But this year I was feeling festive, so I found a trifle dish on Craigslist and a recipe on YouTube and got to work, which was fun. I baked a simple vanilla cake, macerated some fruit in Cointreau and Lillet, and made a bunch of whipped cream cut with greek yogurt. It was more steps than I’ve put into making a single dessert in long time. It literally required assembly. But I’m glad to have done it and one day look forward to doing it again because when you get to put a ridiculous bowl filled with whipped cream, cake, and delicious fruit down on a table it feels pretty damn good.
