The funniest paradox of modern weddings is that they are a celebration of love and the special bond that two people share under the premise that they will be together until death do them part, while simultaneously the wedding DJs play songs that are all about heartbreak, rejection, and failed relationships. Case in point: Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.” This song, as you probably know, has the lyrics “I'm in the corner / Watchin' you kiss her, oh / I'm right over here / Why can't you see me? Oh / I'm giving it my all / But I'm not the girl you're takin' home, ooh / I keep dancing on my own…” It’s a modern classic dance track but should it be played at a wedding? Well, the answer is a very definite yes. The thing about a song like “Dancing On My Own” is that people know it and love it, which leads to the greatest irony of playing it at a wedding because it keeps people on the dance floor. And truthfully, I’ve seen very many happy couples dance to these songs without a second thought because they’re happiest of all to be with their friends and family—as they should be. Other very famous tracks in this particular musical niche include “Say My Name” by Destiny’s Child and “Hey ya!” by Outkast. But hey, the message isn’t always in the music, you know?

Not about weddings. Maybe about New York. Definitely about people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLm4PwYuF8I
