Dyson has recently proven again that they’re only good at making one device: their cordless vacuum. They did this by releasing the Dyson Zone, a two-in-one device that pairs noise-canceling headphones with a Bane-like air-purifying mask. When I first saw it I was taken aback, as were many other people who were pretty sure it was an April Fool’s Day joke. Who on earth are these things for? I’m sure Dyson has a persona in a marketing deck that finely describes the habits and predilections of the target demo but you know they’re not real people. Anyone with eyes could tell that the Dyson Zone looks insane. If you wore them out you know you’d get stares. Someone had to say something right? It might be one thing if they performed well but from what I’ve read and watched, they’re not even good. And even if the headphones had sparkling highs, warm mids, and thundering bass while the air purifier put years back on your life, I’d still hate these things because they’re proof of the fact that technology alone isn’t going to save us from the disasters we’ve brought upon the world and ourselves. They’re a clear indication that we need to deal with the root causes of our problems. Otherwise, we’re all going to end up looking like NPCs in some shitty open-world sci-fi video game.
