Don't Like - When "Next Weekend" Is
When is “Next Weekend”? Well, it depends when you ask and who you’re asking. For some people, “This Weekend” refers to the upcoming Saturday and Sunday starting promptly on the Monday of that week. This is a rational position. It knows that the week begins on Monday and the weekend starts on Friday evening. However, doesn’t saying “This Weekend” feel a bit soon for Monday? If someone said to you, “What did you do This Weekend?” on a Monday, you wouldn’t need to clarify, “Do you mean Last Weekend?” which at that point was only yesterday. If someone asked you what are your plans next weekend on a Monday, wouldn’t it be strange to be thinking two weekends out from now? Maybe that’s rational but it’s not right, right? Tuesday is a no man’s land day in the early middle of the week, which means it’s best to avoid discussing the weekend all together. By Wednesday, though, you get to start having legitimate weekend plans for “This Weekend” as the one right in front of you and “Next Weekend” officially means the one in 10 days. That feels pretty right, right?
