I’ve recently become someone who eats overnight oats. I don’t do it because it’s a fast and easy way to optimize my mornings, while ingesting a high amount of fiber to regulate my appetite and bowel movements. I do it because overnight oats are soft, tasty, and ready to eaten right out of the fridge. They’re nothing more than adult baby food eaten under the guise of being healthy, which they both are and aren’t depending on how you make them. Eating a bunch of soft oats in almond or oat milk with some fruit, coconut shreds, and chia seeds isn’t bad for you. But overnight oats can turn saccharine real quick if you don’t pay attention to how much honey/maple syrup you add to them or if you start adding a bunch of chocolate and peanut butter. When they veer that way overnight oats become quite similar to açaí bowls, which aren’t much more than an excuse to eat purple frozen yogurt for breakfast. Oh well, sometimes you wake up and want a soft bowl of tasty mush and there’s nothing wrong with that.
