Like - Architectural Models
There’s something funny about the fact that every really big building begins as a really small building. The steel, iron, concrete, and glass that impose themselves upon our cities and lives are first made out of balsa wood, or some other light and easy material, as part of a highly sophisticated arts and crafts project built to exacting scale. It’s a beautiful dance between the abstract and the tangible with real stakes on the line. It takes a lot of money to get these models built. Then it must take a lot of time get them to look proper for presentation. But when they’re finished they’re quite special as you get the chance to play God looking down upon buildings like a hulking primordial giant. At least that’s how I feel whenever I walk by an architecture firm and they’ve got a recent project displayed in the window. I’d like to think that’s how the architects themselves feel, too.
