Like - Finding Out I'll Be A Dad

About nine weeks ago, I got the best news I think I’ll get all year. It came in around 8:30am on a Sunday morning as Adriane and I stared at a faint line trying to be sure that it was actually there. We squinted, held it up to the light, took pictures and increased the brightness. Ultimately, we decided to do another test with a clear read out panel a day or two later. That test read “PREGNANT.” We both smiled for a while. We had talked about wanting to have kids in the kind of serious yet abstract way that you talk about wanting to do all sorts of things with your life. But now it’s happening for real. Just this past week, our little baby passed all of the screening tests and things are looking good. In some ways it feels like it hasn’t set in yet, at least insofar as I’ve been told I should be freaking out or overwhelmed with emotions. Maybe that’s all still to come, though for now I’m content to take in every development with a relaxed sense of joy. There will certainly be plenty of craziness ahead.
