There’s something about a little kid with a mohawk that’s obnoxious. It’s like what the hell are you rebelling against? You’re five. How could you possibly be punk? You still like to have bedtime stories read to you. You’ll often see a kid with a mohawk with parents who have mohawks. It’s social rebellion set against familial conformity, which is minorly ironic when you think about it. What is more punk than making your kid be punk? Feels a little weird. But that isn’t always the case either. Some kids who have mohawks have otherwise normal parents. The type of Millennial/Gen X parents “who were young once” and have listened to their fair share of alternative rock. They know that a mohawk can be totally badass. So they let their kid express themself in a kind and supporting manner that in reality expresses how kind and supportive they are as cool parents. The worst though are kids who get mohawks because they’re really good at sports from a young age. In those cases, the mohawks are meant to intimidate the kids they play against. Not that they need to because the parents are already likely doing a great job of that by yelling from the sidelines. So I suppose that’s the real thing with young kids and mohawks, which is that it really isn’t about the kids at all.

Totally agree about the bowl cut. Also agree about the Mohawk for a slightly different reason. My kids are ALWAYS rebelling and testing the limits. Sometimes it’s funny. Sometimes it’s not. Regardless, I don’t need another reminder of their rebellion in the form of a haircut.
