A few weeks back, I took the train to Reno. It was a lovely experience but it was also a very long experience. Fortunately, I wasn’t riding alone. I was my friend with Chris and, as a seasoned Amtrak rider, he decided it was a good idea to bring a water bottle filled with vodka on the train so we could drink a bit cheaper than going to their bar. It was a fun way to start our bachelor party weekend, so what the hell. However, as we were pouring screwdrivers for ourselves while riding through the hinterlands of Oregon, I thought about two girls from my 11th or 12th grade English class who used to do the same thing—that is if the rumors were true. As I recall, these two girls would sit next to each other in class and pass a Nalgene back and forth throughout the period from 9:00 to 9:50 am. I never noticed it myself because I was either oblivious, the girls were covert, or it was just a nasty rumor. Whichever it was, the idea that it was true left an indelible impression.
